Cheap hostel in Prague: A&O Prague Rhea
During my Prague city trip, I slept at a cheap hostel in Prague with Ernestina. We slept in the A&O Prague Rhea hostel, a large hostel on the outskirts of Prague. We booked a package trip, including night train to Prague and two nights in the city. We could choose from several hotels and hostels, but went for the cheapest option: A&O Prague Rhea. The hostel gets good reviews, the pictures looked good, and the hostel easily accessible by public transportation.
Video hostel in Prague:
After a night’s sleep on the overnight train from Deventer to Prague, our train arrived at Prague’s main train station in the early morning. Since we didn’t want to walk around the city all day with luggage, we went straight to the hostel.
Transport to the hostel
At the station you can buy an public transportation card that allows you to use all public transportation in the city. We bought a card for 24 hours and paid €4.25 for it. From the central station it is about half an hour by bus to the hostel. You should get off at bus stop Zborov – Strašnické divadlo. This is less than 500 meters from the hotel. Keep in mind that you have to walk up a hill. You can also take a cab or Bold/Uber from the city, but it will be more expensive. Coming to Prague by car? There is plenty of parking space in front of the hotel.
Cheap hostel in Prague
The A&O Prague Rhea hostel in Prague is a large hostel on the outskirts of Prague. The building has 21 floors. On the 2nd to the 21st floor you will find the rooms. There are dormitories with bunk beds where you can spend the night with other travelers. But you can also choose a single or double room. We had a double room with private bathroom. On the first floor you will find the reception desk, a café, a large dining room, space for the breakfast buffet, a play area for children and a kitchen for guests to use.
Luggage service A&O Prague Rhea hostel
Upon arrival, we were able to check in right away, but since it was still early, our room was not ready. Fortunately, the hostel has a luggage service and we could leave our suitcases in the hostel. Kind of nice to explore the city without the suitcases. Upon arrival at the hostel, we were able to quickly collect our luggage and go straight to our room.
Double room A&O Prague Rhea hostel
Ernestina and I got a room on the 21st floor of the hostel. The room is not very big, but fine for two people. Right when you open the door, you have a bathroom with toilet, sink and shower on the left side. If you walk straight ahead you will enter the living area of the room. There is a double bed with a nightstand on either side. The room is also not much wider than that.
On the wall hangs a small TV with a table and two small chairs underneath. No decorations hang on the wall and the room is quite soberly decorated. So the room is not really cozy, but you can’t expect that for that price. For a double room you pay about €35. The hostel also has dormitories for four or eight people. For those, you pay about €14 per person.
Breakfast A&O Prague Rhea hostel
During our stay at the A&O Prague Rhea hostel, we used the breakfast buffet twice. Since it is a hostel, I did not have such high expectations of the breakfast, but it was much better than I expected. The breakfast buffet is in a large room specially set up for breakfast. Here there are large trays of rolls, spreads, raw vegetables and a wide choice of dairy products and cereals.
There are also two pancake machines that make fresh pancakes at the push of a button. In the breakfast room, you only notice how big the hostel is because the space is so crowded. You may have to stand in line for a while for the pancakes. Other than that, it’s not too bad.
Experience A&O Prague Rhea hostel in Prague
Ernestina and I spent two nights at the A&O Prague Rhea hostel and I have to say I am quite satisfied. The room has everything you need and everything is well maintained and clean. The beds are fine and the shower is also nice. We were only in the hostel to shower, sleep and have breakfast. We spent the rest of the day enjoying the city and all the sights to see here. If you’re looking for a cozy hotel, I can’t recommend this place. But if you are looking for a cheap hostel in Prague, where you are basically just there to sleep, it is definitely recommended.
