Cheap hotel in Paris: Campanile Paris Est – Pantin
Paris is an expensive city, so every Euro you can save is one. During my city break, I stayed in a cheap hotel in Paris. (Or well, just off the periferique, but very close to the metro). I shared my room with a friend and for four nights we paid €304. I would like to share my experience with this hotel.
Ernestina and I booked our Paris city break more than four months before departure. We chose a weekend in April because we were hoping for nice weather but not too many tourists. Initially we had booked an Airbnb, but about a month before departure it was canceled. So we had to look for a new accommodation last minute. Via Booking.com we searched for a cheap hotel in Paris and our choice fell on Campanile Paris Est Pantin. A hotel just outside the ring of Paris, but right next to a metro station.

Location hotel Campanile Paris Est – Pantin
The Pantin neighbourhood is just outside the center of Paris. It is not a tourist district and I don’t know if I, as a woman, would feel comfortable walking around the neighborhood all by myself at night. But this hotel is so close to the metro station that I didn’t feel unsafe for a minute.
Metro station Hoche is less than 100 meters away from the hotel. From there metro line 5 departs and with transfers it takes about half an hour to get to the Eiffel Tower. Gare du Nord is only 15 minutes away. This is ideal if you are traveling to Paris from the Netherlands by Eurostar.
Near the hotel you will find numerous restaurants, a supermarket and bakeries. Ideal if you need something quick, don’t feel like going into town or you decide not to use the breakfast buffet. We found breakfast at the hotel quite expensive and opted to just go to one of the bakeries in the neighborhood in the morning.

Hotel room at Campanile Paris Est – Pantin
What can you expect from a cheap hotel in Paris? That you’re not sleeping right in the city center is clear. But what are the rooms like and is what do I think about the price-quality ratio? We slept in a double room, with twin beds. However, the room is not very big and the beds were pushed against eachother. You can get into the bed from two sides. On one side is a narrow walking space and a nightstand. On the other side is a small desk and a space where you can put your suitcase, with a rod above it for some clothes.
The bathroom is immediately to the right when you enter the room. It is fine and has a toilet, sink and shower with tub. We even had a rain shower in our bathroom.

Price-quality ratio
The hotel room is quite simple, but for a cheap hotel in Paris I have nothing to complain about. One drawback I do find is the lack of air conditioning. We slept in the hotel in early April and found it quite warm in the room. There is a window in the room which can only be opened fully, so not on the tilt position. Since we were on the 2nd floor and our room was adjacent to a flat roof, we closed the window at night to avoid unexpected visitors. The first night we had a spontaneous visit from a cat and I saw someone walking across the roof.
So in that regard, I wouldn’t recommend sleeping here in the summer. (I saw that in the middle of summer you pay double for this hotel. And quite honestly, I don’t think it’s worth it. Then again, all prices go up in the summer. So do you want to stay affordably in/around Paris? Then you better go camping in Paris).
Experience Campanile Paris Est – Pantin
Overall, I am very satisfied with our stay at this hotel. The rooms are fine and we found €304 for four nights a really good price. We found the hotel breakfast comparatively quite expensive, so we opted for croissants at the bakery down the street.
Our favorite part about the hotel was the location, very close to the metro station. (And there is also a bus stopping right outside the door, should you take the night bus after going out in Paris). I will definitely consider this hotel again if I go back to Paris in spring, fall or winter.
